Douglas Macgregor’s War of Words on Ukraine
Douglas Macgregor (*1947, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is a retired U.S. Army colonel, military theorist, political scientist, and author. In 2020, President Donald Trump nominated him as U.S. Ambassador to Germany, but the Senate did not confirm the appointment. Macgregor is also the CEO of "Our Country Our Choice" an "America-First movement" organization.
Already in 2014, he drew criticism for his statements at the onset of the Russian crisis in Ukraine, his remarks on the so-called "referendums" in Donetsk and Luhansk, and his appearance on the Russian state propaganda channel RT.
He stated that the people living in eastern Ukraine were actually Russians rather than Ukrainians and suggested that they should be allowed to join Russia if they chose to.
In 2022, at the beginning of the Russian full-scale invasion, Macgregor said in a Fox News interview:
"The first five days, Russian forces, I think frankly, were too gentle. They've now corrected that. So, I would say another 10 days, this should be completely over."

Asked by the Fox News moderator if he disapproved of Zelensky’s stance, Macgregor answered: "I think Zelensky is a puppet." He did not see "anything heroic" about Zelensky and suggested to "neutralize Ukraine”.
During a March 2022 interview with the controversial channel Grayzone News—often criticized for promoting anti-Western narratives and conspiracy theories—Macgregor said: "the big problem right now is that in the West there is no truth." About the Russian goals, he claimed: "they are not interested in territory." He further stated: "the biggest lie I've heard repeated on television is Russian troops were told to deliberately murder Ukrainian civilians, it's absurd, nothing can be further from the truth." These remarks came just weeks before the liberation of Bucha.
His posts on X make his position unmistakably clear — these are all from 2025:
“Let's be clear about one thing, It's Ukraine who is prolonging this war!”

If you are a Russian, you reasonably ask the following question:
If they want good relations with Russia, if the want to repair the damage, why don't they simply put an end to this regime in Kyiv and demand Ukraine hold elections.”
